Even as the years passed, even as they spent their time further and further divided (the mountains seemed ever vast, always with some new alcove to search or trail to follow; the house always needed to be cleaned of dust and muddied footsteps left when it was too dark to see, and people in Tazmily needed aid and errands run no matter the village’s size; the sheep and Boney still burst with life despite how many times the stable or the house had to be rebuilt), Lucas and what was left of his family still ate together once every year, and set two plates aside.
He remembered the time when a mid-summer storm rolled over Tazmily, covering the village in thunderclaps and flashes of lightning long before the weather seemed to strike down buildings with a will of its own, where his mother had held him tight as he shivered in anxiousness - it seemed to him that the storm was already receding as he drifted to sleep in her blanketing embrace; his last memory before losing to the ebb of dreams completely was of her bringing him to the bed he shared with his brother, who slept alone with his back turned away from them, covers kicked to the bottom of the bed as if to claim in childish anger that he didn’t need their warmth after all.
It was hard; his hands kept clenching at the dirt of their own volition as he tried to smooth it over, and his knees kept digging in to the sides of the almost-finished grave so that the mound slid up to try and swallow him at the wrists.
She hadn’t realized that Walpurgis Night would be so large, nearly blotting out the moon and the buildings it cleaved in two with its mass - but even in the face of the metal beam about to crush her, with Madoka just behind her, Mami had never felt more brave in her life.
If to passerby it looked like the two of them were purposefully avoiding speaking to each-other, eyes averted and heads lowered, it was actually that there was no longer anything either of them had to communicate to the other through speech.
She’d never admit it - okay, that was a lie, she took any opportunity she had to say it, to the point that both parties had threatened her life in one way or another, not that it mattered - but at the very least the two of them had the potential for chemistry, that definite opposites-attract-in-the-most-literal-way vibe that LSP lived for.
He had his procession of golems follow him in making snow angels that day, even though the snow stuck to their bodies and kept them from making proper, clear shapes, and even though he had to walk them through even the most basic of steps - the Ice King would not be satisfied until the entire snowfield was carved with winged indents, like a thousand distant relatives come to visit.
“Besides, you’re friends with that Kyouko girl, aren’t you?” said Sayaka, sneering; Homura blushed, though everybody there thought it was just as much out of habit as the slight shaking of her head, her braids scraping along her back as if to remind her that Kyouko presence there would have at least, if nothing else, been reassuring.
Garnet wondered when she had slipped in to the place Rose Quartz once held among them, tracing with her vision the lines of her gems and where they met the palms of her hands as she watched Steven - preparing lunch in the kitchen - through her outspread fingers.
There were so many times that she just wanted to wring his neck, or at least give him a good and proper scolding, that when he did something brave and kind as a Crystal Gem should be, she would look back disgustedly at herself, and grip her weapon all the tighter; if she’s still able to let her emotions get the better of her, she thinks, then she still has a lot to learn.
How about a round of the 1sentence fic meme?
For those of you who don’t know the drill: drop a pairing, character, and/or prompt in my ask box, and I will write you a one-sentence fill!
If any of you are writers and want to participate too, feel free to reblog this post.
Yes, let us do the thing.
Not that I’d have time to really play it tonight. Essays. Essays exist.
Also man am I gonna have to wait until tomorrow morning to get AT: Explore the Dungeon? This makes me sad.
Apologies in advance to anybody who follows my reblog blog, lots of tutorials I wanna get up there for reference at some point tonight (then I won’t have a million tabs open anymore, that’ll be nice)
Also comics aren’t canon.
(tag this post as spoilers or davey will have your neck)
you know what i mean
the comics are playing off of to-be-seen canon, just like the game is
so both are legitimate sources
The game was confirmed to be canon. There’s nothing in the comics that hints they are canon.
It is not a legitimate source.
comics are based off of canon material, they just arent able to shape it or add to it past headcanon. ryan north co-ordinates with pen the majority of his work (though no longer all of it), and he knows about all the characters. he gave us major major hints for BMO by the way, before “be more” aired.
I’d put them in different levels of canonicity, myself:
You have the show as primary canon, of course. Nothing else. Just what we’re given directly on the screen.
Then you have two levels of secondary canon. Upper-secondary canon is stuff like the game, which is confirmed canon despite not being in the show, or creator comments that are irrevocably canonized. Lower-secondary canon are things like subjective creator comments and production materials, which are not necessarily entirely canon based on either individual interpretations (what with death of the author and all that) or material being removed from the final cut of the show for any number of reasons, which may or may not show up later on if they’re even still considered remotely usable by the show’s creators in the first place. So much changes between pre-production and final product (in any medium, really, but just look at the storyboard vs. the final episode of The Lich for an AT example) that it’s really not viable to consider production materials 100% canon.
As far as the comics go, I would consider them either lower secondary canon or upper tertiary canon - there is creator input from high canonical levels, but they’ve also made it clear that the comics are at the very most a separate continuity. So they do not necessarily reflect primary canon, but may some day reflect primary canon, or potentially either will be inspired by or will inspire either primary or secondary canons. I personally would look to the comics far more as a valuable source for the potential results of character interactions than any direct plot influences.
Oooh hey, Farmworld Crown Finn fanart on my dash!
…can it be happening again? That would be swell.
Welp, that was the motivation I needed to actually get back to work on the second IKF cover pic. Helps that today’s one of the few days I haven’t had a bajillion things to do.
So yay

It was an interesting challenge writing Ness and Paula. I don’t actually dabble in the EB side of things that much, compared to the other two games?
(Submitted by Nonakani)
Ness wiped the sweat off of his forehead, leaving a thin trail of dirt behind.
He and Paula had been trapped in this cave for hours at the very least, and Ness’s eyes had long since gotten used to the near absence of light. He had also adjusted to the scrapes on his elbows and knees, to the sore weight of his pulse in his fingertips and the throbbing of a fledgling headache.
There was only one apparent exit - a single door, metallic and gleaming - and Ness had beaten at it consistently with his baseball bat since he’d first awoken and felt its startling iciness while blindly groping around their prison. After wiping his hand on his shirt, Ness struck the door once more, and the clang of wood on unbending steel echoed off the walls.
Never mind I found it on my dash so I could reblog it. Look! I wrote something!
Things lots of people have been drawing: Steven Universe, Bee and Puppycat.
Things I want to draw: Steven Universe, Bee and Puppycat.
With that and the Steven Universe Production Blog
and Bee and Puppycat getting funded (with the promise of production materials since I may or may not have thrown money at it)
I am a happy Nona.
WE ARE GOING BACK TO STORYBOARDS AND MODEL SHEETS AND WIPS AND I’M PISSING MY PANTS RIGHT NOW
IT’S A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE
Heads up, guys - I’m trying out a new theme (which may or may not be interrupted by my night class in a tiny bit), so don’t be alarmed if my theme’s all over the place~
