Not at the moment, though I’ve had a project in the outlining stage for a while. I wanted to get some smaller original stuff up here first, though. : )
Believe me, if/when I put a webcomic up, I’ll let you guys know!
My twitter handle is the same as here on tumblr!~ Here’s a link, though.
Oh man, I dunno if I’m the best person to ask about this - even with recent events I wouldn’t call myself a “noticed” artist by any means - but I’ll try my hand at an answer.
I feel like being noticed as an artist is a really precarious balance between luck and skill. Sometimes you get lucky, and sometimes you don’t, but either way you have to try your best, hokey as that sounds? The one thing in all of this art craziness that you can control - can’t control luck, can’t control other people, and controlling insecurities is often a tug-o-war sort of battle - is how much stuff you make, and what stuff you make that you put out there in the public sphere.
I’m in a pretty constant state of flux about whether I like or hate any given thing I create, honestly. I feel like a lot of artists go through that, though? You’re pretty much always your own worst critic, I’ve found, and art is no exception. But I decided a short while ago that if I wasn’t meeting my own standards, I would just have to keep drawing or writing or whatever it is until I do, even if by that point my standards have risen and I don’t meet those new ones. Even though that’s a lot easier to say than do a lot of the time.
So when I’m feeling really down about my work, I try to channel it in to something productive. Take all that pent-up frustration (at yourself, at others, at whatever) and make something really awesome with it!
I don’t know about “deserving the popularity you get,” or anything like that, but I do think effort is rewarded. Even if it’s just in the self-fulfillment sense.
…I’m not sure that actually answered your questions, but I hope it helped? I feel like this was kinda rambling. I really don’t consider myself to be an artist with that much exposure…but again, you’re always your own worst critic. I’m flattered that you thought to ask me, though. : )
Thank you!!
And I won’t say it’ll never happen, because who knows!
Thank you : )
I’ve admittedly had a few “sempai noticed me” moments and they’re always ultra cool, but it’s like..man, I don’t even know. I have enough trouble telling artists that I like that I, well, like them - I always feel like I might easily be coming off as kinda creepy? And that goes double for people with larger followings (either professional or amateur) where they probably get tons of stuff coming their way anyway.
I don’t want to put my life on hold hoping for someone to notice me, either. I would LOVE that kind of opportunity, but I can’t just wait around for it. I tried to do that for a while, and just like “waiting around” generally implies, I didn’t get anywhere. Now I have plans for the future set in motion, even if they’re not illustration-based, so if the opportunity did strike I don’t know if I could feasibly even take it? Which…is a bit sad, I guess, but again, I can’t wait around. It’s not like I’m going ahead with something I wouldn’t like to do, either. ,: )
…Well, that got more personal than I was going for. Sorry about that.
(But seriously, I’d still love to draw a variant cover for the comic or something, even if career-wise I’m elsewhere. That would be really really cool.)
Turquoise, all the way.
…sorry, I don’t have a gemsona or anything like that. But if I did, it would be Turquoise.
EDIT: I cannot read English apparently, and my answer is a resounding…I dunno?
Thank you! And I was going to, but they removed it before I could apply ,: )
No, I didn’t :,) I did draw some stevenbomb-related fanart in general that week, though!
Thaaaaank you!~
Not gonna lie, my lines are something I’ve spent a lot of time practicing, so it’s really cool to hear someone complimenting them!
Thank you! : D
I don’t, sorry : ( I do, however, have a twitter where I post lots of doodles and personal junk. It’s pretty fun.
I use a Wacom Intuos 5!
I use Phososhop, generally, but I occasionally pull out Manga Studio/Clip Studio 5. I definitely recommend it - it’s pretty different from Photoshop, true, but it’s faaaaar cheaper, and can do some pretty nifty stuff. That’s what I use for my faux watercolor things!
As far as tutorials go…I don’t have anything specific? A lot of it is just messing around with whatever tools are at your disposal and seeing what works for you. If you have a bit of money to spare, Kyle Webster’s impressively large collection of Photoshop brushes are fantastic (the gouache brushes especially are 1000000/10), but the tools PS comes with already are nothing to scoff at, especially if you customize them to fit your tastes. (Also there’s free brushes everywhere.) On the Manga Studio side of things, I don’t have anything specific to recommend beyond the same mess around + customize your brushes thing (it’s always worth looking around, though! I’ve found some pretty good free brushes for MS on deviantart), but I did adapt my faux watercolor technique from this tutorial for Paint Tool Sai.
Thank you so much for asking! I hope this helped. : )
