Who are your favorite SU characters to draw?

Pearl! Pearl Pearl Pearl!

Close seconds are Rose (because I love drawing characters with crazy hair) and Lapis (no specific reason? I just like drawing her). I actually really like drawing Sardonyx, too, not that you can tell with how little I actually do it.

Steven and Connie are fun, though I have some trouble with Steven’s proportions. And Peridot’s growing on me, drawing-wise, but I’m still trying to nail down exactly how to draw her so that’s a work in progress. And it’s not like I specifically dislike drawing any of the characters, anyway.

i just bought clip studio paint, but its being very laggy, do you have any tips for this?

Hm, yeah, Clip’s brushes can get a bit laggy sometimes - the main thing is to close programs you’re not using (or at least minimize windows), in my experience. Here’s a link to a guide about fixing brush lag in Clip/Manga Studio.

hello! I've got some questions about clip studio paint since it looks like such a great program (and I saw your reblog on their sale too ^^). Does it support CMYK colours? Also, which version would you recommend (pro/ex)? Thank you so much!

Clip’s a bit weird about CMYK stuff, iirc - it translates CMYK imports to RGB and you have to re-export them as CMYK. My experience using it for printing stuff isn’t a lot at the moment… Not sure how you’d work around that, or if there’s a work-around in the program that I’m just unaware of. And if you’re doing screentone work, instead of color, then this isn’t so much of an issue, of course.

As far as Pro vs. Ex goes, the main difference is that Ex lets you do multi-page documents. So if you plan on doing lots of multiple-page sequential stuff, Ex is pretty great, but if you’re just doing single-page illustrations or don’t mind doing every page of a comic in its own document, Pro is perfectly fine. There might be some other things that are Ex-exclusive, but I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

Clip Studio on Sale for as low as $15!

artofcarmen:

sugaryrainbow:

You should totally get it if you’re looking for new art programs!! $15 for an art program of this quality is an absolute gift.

Gonna reblog this for my followers as well!

Clip Studio Paint is the digital download version of Manga Studio 5. This is the program I use, and I can’t recommend it enough! Its very similar to photoshop in layout and capabilities, but with extra fun items like 3d models, kick ass perspective tools and brush stabilizers (especially helpful for those with shakey hands)!

Even if you ONLY buy it for inking, it’s worth it.

I don’t retweet things often, but because lots of people have asked me lately about what programs I use, I figured I’d pass this along!~ Clip is far cheaper than Photoshop, obviously, and is a great program in its own right, ESPECIALLY if you can get it on sale like this.

Is your art all traditional or is it digital? Either way I think it's really gorgeous~

It’s a mix - most of my larger stuff has been digital, but I’ve been messing around with traditional stuff a lot lately - watercolors, mostly, with a side of markers~

Hi, have you ever thought about writing a web-comic?

I have! I actually did a Mother 3 fancomic for a couple of years back in high school/the start of college, which was an awesome - if exhausting - experience, and I’d love to do a webcomic again with an original premise. I have an idea in the works (I’ve posted art of a couple of the characters here and there), but with classes and applications and life I haven’t been able to really start it up. I want to have a huge buffer before starting to post a large project like what I imagine it would be, anyway. (That’s one of the things I learned from said Mother 3 fancomic - working without a buffer is a nightmare, don’t do it, I don’t care how excited you are to show off your pages; I am being entirely serious here.)

So I think it’ll serve me better to start with far shorter comics first~ Again, got some stuff floating around, but nothing substantial because what is time, what is art, please send help.

Yo I have a general commission question sorta? Do artists normally need an actual picture or sketch of what they might draw or can you just send in a detailed description? I've been wondering a while since normally artists I've found don't specify (I might be mistaken though) and I'm too shy to ask the artists since I don't want them to be all excited for stuff only for me to have to tell them I've no money atm. I dunno. I just figured I would ask. I'm sorry to bother you!

I’ve seen it go both ways, and have accepted commissions both with and without drawn references? I’m of the opinion that either a reference or description works fine. Of course, with either a visual reference or a written description, the more detail, the better : ) If you’re not sure, then just provide as much info as you can/feel is necessary~

I know some artists do have their preferences in regards to this, though, so if you can find what that is, better to comply with it. : )

Your watercolors are so clean and beautiful! What kinda tools do you use to make them? (ie. Pen/pencil/paints)

I got this ask around when I posted the last twitter dump, I believe, so I assume watercolor-wise you’re talking about that unfinished drawing with Pearl and Steven? Because those watercolors are, well, watercolors : ) Used a dip pen for the lines as well, I believe (G pen nib?). I like using Chinese calligraphy brushes when I do watercolors because they can hold a loooooooot of water and/or paint, so that’s an option : ) For the fake digital watercolors I do sometimes, I use Clip Studio Paint.

where did you get the fake marker brushes?

Those would be the art marker brushes courtesy of Kyle Webster~ (I linked to his website, but you can get the brushes on Gumroad and Creative Market too, iirc.)

Quick apology to anybody who’s sent me asks recently - the semester just started and I’ve been compiling application stuff and getting back in the swing of having to physically go to school and do homework again. I’ll get to them though, so don’t worry!
