Nona Plays New Leaf - Unneeded and Needlessly Late

image

I love/hate PST.  Just like most of you probably either love or hate New Leaf posts at this point.  This is nothing you haven’t already seen, folks, and most if not all of you are occupied with other (far more exciting, let’s be honest) things at the moment, but I’m posting it now anyway.  Lots of images ahead!

Also, Madoka Magica spoilers.  Don’t ask me why.

Day 1; not much happens, as beyond the formalities, by the time I’ve bought the game and have actually downloaded the thing and have played far enough that I could feasibly buy things, all the shops are closed.  I dejectedly sit on a bench and stare out at the ocean.

But wow this game is pretty.

The second day rolls around.  The tree in the town square planted last night has grown just slightly.  I go to the thankfully-open stores and buy a net and shovel, and grab a fortune cookie with a few of my admittedly-very-scarce play coins.

One good thing about not having access to any tools on the first night, I suppose, is that I spoke with the villagers a lot (got a shirt or two, as you might have noticed, and actually a decent amount of furniture.  Forgot to take any screencaps of my tent/house, though, whoops).  Probably the two most notable are Pudge, a bear who was actually in my Wild World village, and Bonbon, whom I have taken to calling Homubunny.  Actually, her personality is hardly like Homura’s at all, but she says things like this after I’ve spoken to her a lot:

(Then again, she also sometimes asks if I’ve been cloned.  But still, two out of three.)

Most of Day 2 is me systematically catching bugs and gathering seashells (I regretted not asking Isabelle to teach me how to fish because I already owned a net, thinking I would be able to also do the fishing option and get a fishing rod, almost immediately), selling them, and then just doing the same thing all over again.  I easily make enough to pay off the first 10k house payment, but am unable to do so yet.

The second night, though, Kuruk and I both visit each-others’ towns.  They really make it a lot easier to connect with people now, even compared to in Wild World.  Though, to be fair, I never had friends who had the game (online or in real life), so I never really did any WiFi stuff.  But anyway, we spend a good chunk of time just wandering around and doing inane stuff.  It’s pretty fun.

Day 3 opens with me in a new house, and all of the villagers talking about Kuruk’s visit the night before.

You know what, Homubunny?  I think I will, too.

Day 3 is almost entirely me just catching fish (FISHING ROD, AT LAST WE ARE TOGETHER) and bugs and stuff and making bells.  Tangentially, pun of the year, all years:

Other notable things include me paying that 10k bells (and incurring a new debt if I want to make my house just slightly larger - never change, Animal Crossing) and a new villager (Sylvia the Kangaroo).  I didn’t really talk to her much since she’s still unpacking, so we’ll see how tomorrow goes, I guess.

Also, Homubunny asks me to catch a goldfish.  And when Homubunny asks you to do something, you do it.

image

Then, later in the day, Homubunny asks me to change her tagline.  As far as I see it, there is only one option.

That’s not all that’s happened, of course, but a lot of it is pretty inconsequential - just the normal grind of early Animal Crossing.  So I’ll finish off here, with me and the just-starting sunset; it’s seriously a very pretty game.
